AS this year’s A-level results came through to Frensham Heights, it wasn’t just the individual student success that was noticeable – it was also the success in a rich and varied range of subjects.

As a school where every subject is treated equally, whether the sciences, the humanities or the creatives, Frensham’s teachers appreciate watching students go through their school years enjoying the variety available to them and genuinely thriving.

Headmaster Andrew Fisher explained: “They thrive because we actively encourage and enable them to follow the subjects they love at A-level rather than insisting they follow an outdated formula for university admissions focused on too narrow a set of subjects.

“In so many schools, the creative and performing art subjects are being relegated to recreational pursuits but here at Frensham we know how important it is for students to follow the subjects they love.

“Some students are happiest following three or four straight academic A-levels, as many of our students do, but for those who want to continue with a creative subject too, we know that letting them do so only increases their opportunities for entry to top level universities.”

Perhaps the best example from this year is Ollie, one of Frensham’s most accomplished dancers.

Following a string of A and A* grades across academic and creative subjects, including an A* in dance, Ollie has won a place at Oxford to read English.

Others with a similar mix of the academic and creative who were celebrating include Ben, who studied maths, economics and music and is now heading to Bristol to read economics, and Ella, who studied art & design, history and English and is off to Exeter to read English.
