WOOLMER Hill is celebrating its “best ever” set of GCSE results, with record 80 per cent of students achieving five A* to C grades across the board, in a 12 per cent increase on last year’s figures.
A resounding 84 per cent gained A* to C in English and mathematics and 83 per cent achieved five or more A* to C grades. Overall, 25 per cent of all passes were achieved at either A or A* grade.
There were some stand-out individual performances.
This year’s highest achievers, who each gained eight or more A and A* grades were:
Rosalind Baverstock; Edith Cordell; Laura Eisenhowerp; Eleanor Kettle; Sara Klusch; James Lye; Ryan Picknell; Joshua Rhode; Evelyn Roebuck; Alice Travis; Macy Trieu-Dingle and Tabitha Weir.
Star student was Alice Travis who achieved nine A* grades and one grade A.
Head Clare Talbot said: “I am absolutely delighted with the results which reflect the hard work and commitment of our pupils and staff.
“It is very pleasing to see our pupils achieving their goals and we congratulate them all on their achievements. They were a delightful year group to work with and we wish them all the very best of luck for the future. All of our pupils, parents, staff and all those associated with the school and the local community can be truly proud of what our young people have achieved.”
This year, the focus of school results will be on progress, with the new progress eight measure due to be reported in school performance tables in January 2017.
Woolmer Hill is confident of exceptional results, underpinned by the strong progress in core subjects, with 90 per cent of pupils making expected progress in English and 89 per cent in mathematics.
