VISITORS flocked to Hinton Ampner, near Alresford, over the weekend to enjoy the National Trust property's inaugural Easter programme.

It was a venture into the unknown for Hinton Ampner as children enjoyed following the clues along the Easter egg trail that led them around the gardens, resplendent with blossom and spring flowers, and into the parkland with its grazing flock of sheep and new-born lambs.

At the end of the 'hunt' they all received an Easter egg and were able to meet the 'scarecrow' whose name was spelt out by the clues, to shake hands with the White Rabbit, and to have their own faces painted to look like their favourite animal or cartoon character.

Property administrator and event organiser Lyn Sandford said: "We were overwhelmed with the support and positive feedback.

"We had more than 1,300 visitors and hundreds of children enjoyed the Easter trail around the grounds, and their encounters with a very large white rabbit! It was a huge success and we're absolutely thrilled."
