EGGAR’S School pupils joined the thousands across the country picking up their GCSE results last Thursday – and it proved worth the wait as they wer described as “outstanding”.
Since this year has seen the introduction of a new assessment regime with English and maths now being reported on a one to nine scoring scale for GCSE, the school felt unable to make a direct comparison with previous results.
However, according to a statement, “based on the advice from the DfE of grade four being a pass in English and maths this year, results are outstanding with 80 per cent of students achieving grade four and above.
“Mathematics achieved 82 per cent grade four-plus and English achieved 85 per cent grade four-plus. Students also achieving the highest grades seven, eight and nine were outstanding with 32 per cent in English and 30 per cent in maths gaining the top grades.”
Headteacher Patrick Sullivan said: “These results are a reflection of the commitment of both staff and students. The Year 11 students worked very hard and this is a reward for their ambition and commitment.
“Results in English and maths were outstanding, as were results in the foundation subjects. Our foundation subject results are really pleasing, this includes French 88 per cent A*-C, history 85 per cent, ICT 75 per cent, Spanish 74 per cent, graphics 75 per cent, music 95 per cent, and textiles 91 per cent.
“Among the top performers who achieved 10 or more A*A, which is an exceptional performance, were Isabel James 13 A*A; Alice Woolman, Peter Morris, Alfie Mowse and Zak Angell who achieved 12 A*A; Daniel Beeston, Ben Hudgell, and Ansa Sunil who achieved 11 A*A; Michael Foley, Martha Kingsley and Carys Morgan who achieved 10 A*A; and Zach Harrison, Josie Morris, Toby Pascoe, Flo Smith and Maddie Withey, who achieved nine A*A results.”
Mr Sullivan added: “Staff have worked unbelievably hard and their tremendous commitment has made the difference for so many of our students. We are delighted that yet another group of talented students leave Eggar’s with bright careers ahead.”
