AS the autumn term gets under way, Hampshire County Council has four of its five new governors in place at Eggar's School and is working to recruit more.

The exercise follows the mass resignation at the end of the last school year of the previous board of governors.

According to the LEA, their action was prompted by a "significant differences of view within the governing body about the future direction of the school".

One further governor is still being sought and letters are going out to all parents inviting them to stand as parent governors. Staff too are being encouraged to stand as teacher governors.

Eggar's now has a new deputy head teacher, Mr Michael Serridge, who will join existing deputy head Patrick Sullivan in the senior management team, along with senior teacher Hylton Cornish.

It is hoped the new governing board will be in a position to resume full powers before the October half term.
