EAST Hampshire District Council is in turmoil after its Tory leader survived a vote of no confidence by the narrowest margin.

Ken Moon, the leader of the Conservative-run district council, fought off a leadership challenge this week.

A single vote was all that split the outcome at the meeting of the Conservative group on Monday night, with Mr Moon surviving by the skin of his teeth.

Nineteen of the 39-strong Conservatives on the council are believed to have voted in favour of the no confidence vote, just one short of the 20 needed to proceed with a leadership contest.

"Had it been a leadership contest Mr Moon would have lost," declared Jennifer Gray, district councillor for Liss.
