THE daughter of an 88-year-old woman, who went missing on Sunday, has thanked neighbours and the police for their help trying to find her.

The woman, known locally as Maisie, set out from the home she shares with her daughter to walk her daughter's Cairn terrier called Holly at 2-30 pm.

When she had not returned by 6 pm, the police were called in. A police helicopter was scrambled and circled the Bourne area that evening but at 11 pm Maisie knocked on the door of a resident of The Sands, who rang her daughter to say she was safe and well.

"The police were most helpful," said Maisie's daughter. "They were here promptly, were courteous and mounted a big operation,"

The daughter, who asked not to be named, also praised neighbours. She added: "I'm not sure what happened in the intervening hours and at 11 pm it was getting quite desperate, but we've a lot to be grateful for."
