FARNHAM LANE, Haslemere, was sealed off on Wednesday morning as the emergency services rushed to a house fire.

Haslemere fire crews were first on the scene, and as a column of black smoke billowed down the lane, crews quickly tackled the blaze.

An elderly woman had already escaped from the house but was taken to hospital as a precaution. No-one else was in the building, according to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

Haslemere fire manager Larry Bennett said: "When we got there, the building was well alight. The fire was in the roof and the ground floor."
