A YOUNG girl has braved having around 35 centimetres of her hair chopped off in support of the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides free wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.
Emily Hart, aged 11, had been growing her hair for more than a year in preparation for the haircut, which took place at The Retreat Hair and Beauty in Farnham on Thursday, January 17.
The salon donated the haircut free.
Emily has also been fundraising to help fund the cost of the wigs, which cost around £500 each to produce. So far she has raised a huge £1,200.
Her mum, Lisa Hart, told the Herald: “She was a little nervous at the hairdressers, none of us had considered what we were going to do with her hair style afterwards as we’d been focussed on fundraising.
“She has always had long hair and is already growing it out so I can’t say she’s that keen on it!”
She added they are “very proud of her efforts”. Emily also received a postcard from her headteacher at Waverley Abbey Junior School, Kate Redman, which stated “how impressed I am by your determination to make a positive difference to the lives of others”.
Emily decided she wanted to help children who had lost their hair through cancer treatment after seeing “both my Nana and my Grandma struggling with cancer”, according to her MyDonate page. Donations can still be made online until February 17, by visiting mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/emilyhart1.
