End of era for school

ALTON witnessed 'the end of an era' last Friday with the closure of Mayfield School after 56 years.

The end was marked by a service at St Lawrence Church, conducted by the Right Revd Dr Geoffrey Rowell, Bishop of Basingstoke, himself a former pupil, and a party at the school during which pupils released 56 red balloons.
