A PEDESTRIAN crossing between Petersfield and Liss has reached the end of the line.

But hundreds of people have backed a campaign to keep the gates open near an East Hampshire school.

Network Rail is well on track with its bid to replace the foot crossing at the end of Stodham Lane with a footbridge.

The gates were locked early this week and surrounding trees have been felled in preparation for the arrival of a temporary footbridge.

That structure will eventually be replaced with a permanent bridge as part of a multi-million pound bid to improve railway safety.
