HAMPSHIRE County Council this week launched a consultation into the future of Whitehill and Bordon's public transport, but with it comes the fear that it might be the end of the line for rail-link hopes.

The draft Public Transport Strategy, revealed at a county council meeting on Tuesday, sets out several "realistic" choices for public-transport improvements to meet the expected growth in demand following the regeneration of the town.

But the possibility of a rail link is seeming less likely because the development of the service would "not be viable" within the eco-town masterplan's time constraints.
