A SELECTION of year eight and nine Weydon students were lucky enough to attend an engineering festival that took place at the Savoy Place, London.

They had an amazing day which consisted of workshops, talks and exhibitions - including two sessions run by F1 in Schools and IBM.

For the Formula One racing workshop, students had to think about what was important when designing a racing car and how they can sketch a prototype in 3D, learning all the tricks of the trade.

As for the IMB workshop, they were set the task of teaching computers to respond to certain emotions.

All students worked well showing how talented they all are coming up with brilliant results and showing off their strengths in different aspects of each workshop.

The students also had the chance to get involved in lots of hands-on demonstrations provided by a variety of engineering companies across the country.

This engaged the students and got them highly excited about what they could potentially do in the future, immediate and long term. The students asked a lot of questions which were to a high standard and the students were praised for their maturity and inquisitiveness.

All students got the opportunity to take away merchandise and leaflets related to the companies they were most interested in.

Claire Copeman, Weydon science teacher who accompanied the students, commented: “We had an amazing day and gained some invaluable experience of the engineering industry. The students were focused and engaged throughout the day.

“Some have expressed an interest in participating in the various competitions that are held for young people in this field. I am sure they have been inspired to look into this as a future career option.”
