FARNHAM’S Weydon School hosted its annual prize-giving event recently with special guest, England rugby player, Heather Fisher.
Heather has competed in the Bobsleigh Junior Championships, the British Championships and the European Circuit and was part of the England Rugby World Cup winning team in 2014.
The evening was hosted by the new headboy, Johnny Redford, and new headgirl, Jocelyn Elleby, with prizes and certificates handed to winners by headteacher, John Winter and Heather Fisher.
This annual event is an evening of celebration and the students win prizes for achievement within a subject area, for progress, effort and special ‘Weydon Academy Awards’.
Students were presented with a specially designed prize-winners’ pin-badge, commemorative pen, a certificate, document wallet and some awards also merited an engraved shield.
Their achievements were celebrated in front of their parents, Weydon School staff and VIP guests.
The applause rang out while the students collected their prizes and their parents were clearly delighted and proud of their children for their outstanding achievements.
It is evident that the evening serves a purpose for not only rewarding the students’ successes but for inspiring them, and others, to continually strive to achieve their best.
Heather gave a warm and inspirational presentation with a strong message to the students which was both honest and positive.
She added a great deal to the celebratory feel and uplifting atmosphere which is synonymous with this event.
Headteacher Mr Winter, said: “The event was a very warm and uplifting evening which provided an opportunity for every student to enjoy their successes.
“Heather Fisher was an inspiration to the students and talked positively about the challenges facing you on your road to success. I am very proud of the students and their achievements.”
