This EASTER sees the launch of Family Activity Trails in Farnham and Haslemere – funded by the government’s Additional Restrictions Grant.

Families will be able to play (for free!) on an illustrated activity trail that brings to life each town’s heritage and takes them on a journey of discovery.

Waverley Borough Council economic development and cultural services teams have been working in partnership with Farnham Town Council, Farnham Maltings, Haslemere Town Council, Haslemere Educational Museum and A Line Art to develop the trails, which are also taking place in Godalming.

All families need to do is pick up a free activity sheet at Farnham Maltings or Haslemere Educational Museum, and embark on a short walk around the town following colourful vinyl stickers adhered to the pavements.

Children will be invited to undertake creative activities, from drawing and  completing a giant wordsearch in front of The Haslemere Bookshop, to waving at Farnham Castle, playing air guitar at the Gostrey Meadow bandstand, making a wish on a penny at a well, and bowing in front of the Queen at Haslemere’s  Charter Walk.

Anna Bruder from A Line Art said: “We are so looking forward to bringing three brand-new activity trails to  Godalming, Haslemere and Farnham. We’ve all had a tough few years and the Activity Trails are a celebration and an invitation for the community to share a moment of creative connection and get out in town and explore.”

Councillor Liz Townsend, Waverley’s portfolio holder for planning and economic development, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming these activity trails to our towns. The trails are part of a wider package of cultural activities happening across the borough this spring. We hope families will enjoy and explore what Waverley has to offer. From cultural arts venues and museums to a wide range of local independent businesses.”

The trails are due to be installed today, to be launched at the beginning of April, to coincide with the Easter holidays and will be available for families to enjoy for up to three months.

They are part of a wider package of cultural activities happening across the borough this spring, aiming to increase footfall and trade in Waverley’s towns.

There will also be a free family workshop inspired by the trail at Farnham Maltings on Monday, May 30.

Activity trails can also be downloaded at https://www.farnham.gov.uk/activity-trail (Farnham) and https://haslemeretc.org (Haslemere).
