The New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham will host a Winter Art and Craft exhibition from November 8 to February 28.
This festive showcase of contemporary art and craft will bring together nearly 200 leading British artists and makers.
There will be paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, glass, wood and festive decorations from the likes of Emma Dunbar, Susie Lidstone, Amanda Hoskin, Hilke MacIntyre, Richard Baxter, Daphne Krinos, Yen Duong, David Mayne and Jane Muir.
Gin Durham will give an exhibition entitled Sculptural Storytelling in Clay from November 8 to January 10. Her ceramic sculptures weave together folklore, animal behaviour and narrative charm.
Each piece is hand-built in stoneware, with carved textures and layered finishes of oxides, underglazes and precious lustres.
Fired three times for exceptional depth, her work is prized by collectors for its blend of traditional craftsmanship and imaginative storytelling.
Gin said: “The clay is drawn and shaped to represent fluid forms based on anatomically correct studies, though rich creativity enhances and exaggerates detail in the work.”
Elizabeth Welch’s exhibition Glass, Light and Wild Beauty, also running from November 8 to January 10, features borosilicate glass sculptures where birds, insects and animals appear frozen in a moment of stillness.
Using flameworking techniques, she layers colour for lifelike detail, often setting her figures within hand-blown glass frameworks. Many pieces are finished with flashes of 24 carat gold, jewel-like in their precision and beauty.
Elizabeth said: “I aim to bring a sense of realism to my glass menageries. The natural world has always informed and inspired me and is the central influence for all my work.”
With Christmas approaching, director Dr Outi Remes reminded people that the gallery was a place to come and buy as well as come and look.
She said: “This year, more people are choosing gifts that are thoughtful and lasting. Every piece bought here supports an artist and our work as a charity. It means your festive shopping is meaningful, sustainable and part of Farnham’s craft story.
“The gallery welcomes visitors searching for original gifts and collectors seeking one-of-a-kind works - from statement paintings to hand-thrown ceramics and finely made jewellery - this festive season.”
From January 17 the season will continue with new exhibitions - Fiona Pearce will unveil vibrant floral and landscape paintings, Jacky Paynter will presents her Pathways series inspired by the Cornish coast and Fleet Pond, and Pete Jackman will explore the shifting moods and textures of the British coastline.
As part of Farnham Craft Town, families can enjoy three free drop-in Craft Your Year workshops for the festive season, supported by Farnham Town Council, the South Street Trust, the Patricia Baines Trust and Brightwells.
These are Willow Stars with Judith Needham (November 15, 1pm to 5pm, Gostrey Meadow), Snow-Themed Workshops with Sinéad Fox (November 30 and December 21, midday to 3pm, Brightwells Creative Space), and Mizuhiki Knotting with Nao Fukumoto (December 14, 10am to 3.30pm, Farnham Christmas Market).
