Farnham is gearing up to celebrate the King’s coronation with a weekend of events centred around Gostrey Meadow, and street parties across the town.

The coronation weekend will begin with a number of church services including a special commemorative service at St Peter’s Church, Wrecclesham on Friday, May 5.

On Saturday, May 6, well-wishers will be able to watch the coronation live on a 20 square metre big screen at Gostrey Meadow.

Later in the day, Farnham will hold its very own coronation concert with live music by Coldplace who are described as the ‘world’s number one tribute to Coldplay’, the Vic Cracknell Swing Band, the Fabulous Funky Funks and Alder Valley Brass.

There will also be free face painting, a coronation cross stitch workshop and food and drink stalls.

The festivities will continue on Sunday, May 7 when neighbours and communities come together to share food and fun at coronation big lunch street parties across Farnham. The Farnham Lions are hosting an event in Gostrey Meadow.

Iain Lynch, Farnham town clerk, said: “Farnham’s coronation weekend is an opportunity for people to come together in celebration of this historic event.”

As well as being a time of celebration, Monday, May 8 is The Big Help Out. People are encouraged to try volunteering and get involved in local initiatives.

Mr Lynch continued: “Farnham has an amazing group of volunteers who volunteer throughout the year. If you would like to join them in Farnham, there will be a special day of activity which will include a number of environmental activities around Gostrey Meadow.

“These include a litter pick, weeding and planting and the creation of a ‘dead hedge’ by the old bowling green to support biodiversity.

“The local Sea Cadets, Scouts, The Farnham Biodiversity Group, schools, other community groups and businesses such as Waitrose are supporting the event but there is time for other groups to get involved too.
