I must remark on Paul McCartney for his fabulous set at Glastonbury. What a great example he sets for live music with probably the best back catalogue of songs of any living performer around today.

Well done Sir Paul and it’s great to have Glastonbury – and so many other festivals – back again!

This weekend it’s Haslemere Fringe Festival which features The Feeling, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Toploader and Sleeper, among others.

As with all festivals, it’s not just about the headliners – it’s about discovering new music. Look out for talented local artists such as Emma Stevens, Watershed, Sour Kix, Telephone Road, Eloise Carter, Floron, Tom Baird, Five ‘Til Seven, TR5’s, B3’s, Charcoal Burners and more. They will all be popping up at the festival during the weekend.

I will be playing a spot at 11.45am on Saturday on the Musicworks stage (www.haslemerefringe.co.uk)

Meanwhile Farnham Fringe Festival celebrates music and the arts in Farnham from this Saturday to July 17. There are lots of varied events from a kids’ symphonic Sunday through to theatre shows, comedy, sea shanties, a piano recital, a writers’ retreat and gigs. Check out their website for more details of all that’s going on at www.farnhamfringefestival.org

Grayshott Folk Club is back on July 15 with Bob Fox at Grayshott Village Hall. He is one of the original troubadours who plays and sings ageless, stripped-back folk songs, both traditional and contemporary. Just him, his voice and his guitar.

He was cast as The Songman in the original 2007 National Theatre production of Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse. He made that part his own for a whole two years of live performances and was lavished with praise for his outstanding singing and playing.

Come and listen to a master of his trade. Tickets are available from Des O’Byrne on 01428 607096 (www.grayshottfolkclub.co.uk).

I have had some acts having to pull out of a Young Artist Showcase I have been asked to host. It’s on the afternoon of Sunday, July 17 as part of the Music In The Meadow series at Farnham Bandstand.

If you know any talented young performers then do let me know and I will consider them for a spot to play to join other local acts such as Ed Lee, Laura Loh, Eloise Carter and Jon Knight who are all on the bill.

Rushmoor Male Voice Choir with guest singer Kate Lowe have their summer concert next Friday (July 8) at 7.30pm at Highcross Church, Camberley, GU15 3SY, in aid of The Prostate Project.

Tickets are £12.50 and are available at trybooking.co.uk/brsi

Slightly further ahead, Richard Stone – who now runs 101 Collectors Records in Farnham – will host his first “acoustic in-store” live music performance on July 29 at 7pm.

It will feature Reuben’s Daughters whose album Mama Wata is out now. Contact Richard in store or on their social media to reserve a place.

Petersfield’s Shine Radio features local acts each Thursday from 9pm on Mandy P’s show (www.shineradio.uk).

Brian Player continues his Folk, Roots and Acoustic music show each Tuesday at 8pm on Wey Valley Radio based in Alton.

Wey Valley Radio is on 101.1FM or online at www.weyvalley.uk
