IT was not only Wings and Wheels at Dunsfold Park on Bank Holiday Sunday - it was also wedding bells.
The runway action soared to new heights at this year’s two-day blockbuster show, when unsuspecting Chiddingfold au pair Erika Lenart received a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Hunor Gal in front of thousands, with the help of the Tigers Parachute Display Team.
Under the guise of being picked randomly from the crowd to receive the salute from The Tigers, Hunor received a flag and unrolled it to present his girlfriend with the wording: ‘Erika, will you marry me?’.
He then kneeled to present her with a beautiful ring.
Erika and Hunor, who hail from Hungary, both live and work in Chiddingfold.
They celebrated their second year as a couple at Wings and Wheels last year and love the show.
“That gave me the idea to see if I could do this,” Hunor told The Herald.
“It seemed such a good opportunity. I always think if you really want something you can achieve it.
“We came to Chiddingfold together 14 months ago. We love it, its so quiet and peaceful. We don’t have village greens in our home country.
“Erika had no idea what I was going to do. It was quite hard keeping it a secret after I asked her mother and father if I had their permission to marry her, when we visited them three weeks ago.”
Dunsfold Park event director Jamie McAllister said: “We are so pleased and delighted to have been able to facilitate our first Wings and Wheels proposal. Congratulations to Hunor and Erika and thank you to the Tigers Parachute team for assisting.”
