AN 88-year-old Farnham woman broke her shoulder and her nose and was left black and blue with terrible bruising, after tripping face first over a protruding manhole cover on the pavement in Downing Street last Monday.
An off-duty paramedic who was passing in his car stopped to give assistance to a badly-shaken Edith West until an ambulance arrived.
Mrs West spent four nights in Frimley Park Hospital and on returning home last Friday, her daughter has had to stay overnight in her one-bedroom town centre flat to care for her.
Yet more than a week after the incident was reported to Surrey County Council by Mrs West's son, Geoffrey West, the council had taken no action to remedy the situation.
