THE shops and houses filling the streets of Farnham have had many faces over the years, as businesses have come and gone.
This September, as part of the annual Heritage Open Days, The Museum of Farnham will head out into the community and explore the ‘Changing Faces’ of commercial Farnham.
Over the course of the week, from Saturday, September 2, to Sunday, September 10, posters will be displayed in a range of shop windows in Downing Street, West Street and The Borough, showing how each business has changed over the last 50 years.
Some names and faces may be familiar, and some not quite so familiar.
The museum would love to hear people’s memories of shopping in Farnham in years gone by throughout the week-long exhibition. Just drop into participating shops or the museum to pick up a postcard and write them down.
From Thursday, September 7, to Saturday, September 9, people can also visit the museum to see more photographs in a free pop-up exhibition on the changing faces of commercial Farnham.
Curator Liz Smith said: “If you don’t get the chance to see all of the posters don’t worry, you can find a complete set at the museum throughout September, and also look out for our calendar in the museum shop.”
