DEMONSTRATING Every Little Helps, railway contractors carrying out work to the line near the railway bridge in Liphook Road, Haslemere, dropped tools and directed traffic when a Tesco delivery lorry hit the roof, on Monday.

Fortunately the specialist rail division from Dyer and Butler was able to ascertain no structural damage had been done to the bridge, although the lorry’s cab roof was damaged in the incident that occurred just before 1pm.

The workmen doubled up as traffic cops for just under an hour, directing traffic queuing up to get past the stranded juggernaut, coming south down Liphook Road, north up Shottermill Road and out of Critchmere Lane, until the all clear was given and it was able to drive off.
