OLD THORNS Golf and Country Club has handed out an array of prizes to members.

They included two country estate year memberships – worth £1,500 each – a personal training session, a spa day, a carvery dinner for four, four tickets for one of Old Thorns' popular tribute nights and a food and drinks hamper.

The event was organised by golf manager Henry Alliss and attended by more than 100 members. The Alliss family also received a special accolade in the form of a lifetime achievement award from bowel cancer charity GUTS (Guildford Undetected Tumour Screening).

Henry's mum Jackie, who has been a patron of the charity from the start, with husband Peter, were presented the award at a special anniversary dinner, hosted by the hotel, at Griggs Green.

Each November, Old Thorns hosts the Alliss Golf Challenge Day in aid of GUTS, attracting celebrities and many teams who help raise thousands of pounds,

More than £3m has been raised for GUTS in the last 30 years to support family cancer clinics and research. It was started by Professor Christopher Marks in 1983 at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.
