AS the children enjoy their summer holidays and the teachers relish a well-earned rest, The Rural Life Centre in Tilford travels back through time as families are invited to experience the Victorian way of life.
Every Thursday throughout August, history is brought to life by volunteers at The Rural Life Centre, who have created a series of unique activities to keep children entertained throughout the holidays.
It is a chance for children to experience life as a Victorian child, where they can try their hand at harvesting, weaving, Victorian style washing, rocket making, and the extraordinary chance to attend a frightening lesson in the Victorian school classroom.
Ian Parker from The Rural Life Centre said: “I have been running the events for the past couple of years ago and since my time here, I have not had one single complaint. We believe this is a unique experience, the volunteers are the ones putting in all of the hard work.
“Most people come along and don’t realise how much there is to do, as well as the activities there is the museum and the old Victorian playground, fit with swings and roundabouts. So, there is always plenty to do here. Over the past couple of years, we have seen a steady increase in visitors, and we have families who come back year on year.”
All activities are free but an entrance fee is required on the door. Activity Thursdays will continue throughout August and will then return during the autumn half term. For more information visit www.rural-life.org.uk.
