FARNHAM residents are calling on Surrey County Council to explain why roadworks on one of the town's main roads, which is causing misery to both commuters and residents, have taken so long to complete. Residents who live in and around Weydon Lane have complained to the council that road works by the bridge have gone on longer than the planned 10 weeks and are asking them to scotch the rumour that this is due to the contractors failing to order the lights in time. David Munro, SCC councillor for Farnham and portfolio holder for transport, said: "We are quite angry that it has taken so long to fit the traffic lights at the bridge on Weydon Lane and we are going to be calling the contractor, Ringway, to explain to us why. "The work on the road itself around the bridge was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, so we have fulfilled our side of the bargin by getting the road ready, now the contractors need to honour theirs." Pat Frost, also a SCC councillor for Farnham, said: "It is my understanding that the delay is simply due to the contractors failing to raise the order for the lights in time, but we are expecting them to be installed imminently." At the time of going to press, neither county councillor nor Surrey County Council were able to give an exact date or time the traffic lights would be put in place. Meanwhile, some vehicles are ignoring the road closure although the road has been restricted to single-lane traffic. Without the lights, residents say, the road becomes dangerous as the two bends either side of the bridge prevent drivers from seeing oncoming traffic before they reach the bridge.
