NEWLYNS Farm Shop has raised more than £25,000 for a children’s charity with its annual Odiham & District Fair.

This month’s fair supports the NSPCC and this year celebrated 30 years of Childline, the telephone helpline dedicated to giving confidential advice to vulnerable young people.

As the clock struck 9.30am floods of volunteers and supporters piled into the fair marquee to pledge their donations to the NSPCC while roaming and browsing the wide variety of stalls.

On the Newlyns blog they added: “From cheese, children’s clothing lines and wellingtons to unusual Christmas gifts, the NSPCC Odiham & District committee made a stellar job at bringing a vast array of talented producers to cater for all demographics and age groups.”

The NSPCC fundraising committee in Odiham originally began 50 years ago, as an event in an Odiham lady’s home, and has since grown into an event attended by over 1,200 people, with the fair starting 25 years ago.

Every item sold raised vital funds for NSPCC projects, which help vulnerable young people throughout the country.

The source of donations from the fair included door sales, 10 per cent of stallholders takings, raffle tickets, stallholders’ nominated prizes for the raffle and from the deli counter where homemade food items had been donated.

Organiser Lucy Bardwell said: “In this 50th anniversary year of the NSPCC fundraising committee in Odiham, we raised £27,175 for the NSPCC over the preview and day events.

“We are grateful to all who attended, our sponsors who covered the cost of holding the event, supporters and volunteers who helped to make the event run smoothly and the staff at Newlyns Farm Shop and Lodge Farm for their patience and assistance."
