A FARNHAM family now boasts an extraordinary five living generations stretching from baby to great, great-nan, after welcoming its latest new arrival a week before Christmas.

Baby Kaiden-Jay Steel’s arrival on December 18 was celebrated by 21-year-old dad Macauleigh Steel, 42-year-old nan Samantha Isom, 61-year-old great-nan Kay Stewart and 79-year-old great-great-nan Nora Scott.

But this is not the first time that five generations have been alive in this family, as it first happened when, now dad, Macauleigh was born.

Twenty-one years ago, Macauleigh’s birth was celebrated by mum Samantha, nan Kay, great-nan Nora and great-great-nan Hilda Pierce.

Five-week-old Kaiden-Jay’s great nan, Kay, told The Herald: “My mum’s over the moon to be a great-great nan, she said she wanted that before she actually died, she’s so excited.

“Having a great grandson is lovely and he’s absolutely adorable, he’s a really lovely boy.

“It’s absolutely wonderful knowing that it’s rare, it’s not usual is it, you don’t get many.”

Both Nora and Kay were born in Farnham, Samantha was born in Aldershot and both Macauleigh and Kaiden-Jay were born in Frimley.

All five generations remain living locally to Farnham, with the furthest away being in Aldershot.

Kay went on to say: “We’ve got a big family; I’m one of five, my mum was one of seven, I have three myself and my great grandson now.

“If you need help there’s always somebody there to help you and it’s nice when you’ve got big get togethers.”

In fact, Kay would herself “like to be a great-great-nan” in the future, following in her own mother’s and nan’s footsteps.

According to the Guinness World Records, the most generations alive in a single family has been seven.

The youngest great-great-great-great-grandparent being Augusta Bunge (USA) aged 109 years 97 days, followed by her daughter aged 89, her grand-daughter aged 70, her great-grand-daughter aged 52, her great-great grand-daughter aged 33 and her great-great-great grand-daughter aged 15 on the birth of her great-great-great-great grandson on January 21, 1989.
