A FARNHAM family has been able to enjoy their garden once again after it was transformed by Waverley’s service provider, Glendale, from an overgrown lawn to a clear green space, ready for planting.

As part of Glendale’s 25th anniversary celebrations the company launched the Community 25 initiative, offering to carry out a garden makeover, worth up to £1,500, for deserving residents.

The company asked Waverley Borough Council to nominate a resident it felt would benefit from the makeover and so the council put forward Mrs White – a single mother of three boys from Farnham.

Mrs White said: “Before the makeover the garden wasn’t secure at all and you could get through to my neighbours’ gardens. It was also completely overgrown and there was no way I could clear it all by myself.

“I have three sons; my youngest boy uses a wheelchair and because the garden was so bad he couldn’t move around. Glendale completely cleared the space and installed new fencing.

“I was so pleased when it was all done. My son can now get right down to the bottom of the garden in his wheelchair and the makeover has given me a clean slate to do what I want with it.

“My other children have been playing basketball outside and can also play with the dog in the garden now we have the fencing. I love being outside now and so do my boys.”

A team of nine specialists from Glendale’s local grounds maintenance team carried out the clearance work in the garden. The work included clearing out old garden furniture, overgrown vegetation and rubbish before raking and reseeding the grass.

Three arborists from Glendale’s Surrey-based tree team removed a hedge and used a stump grinder to clear the roots and stumps so that a new fence could be installed.

Paul Ford, contract manager at Glendale, who helped to organise the work, said: “We’ve been working with Waverley Borough Council for many years and it’s been fantastic to be able to give something back to the local community.

“It was a pleasure to be able to provide Mrs White and her family with a safe and useable green space to spend time in together and we are pleased that she’s happy with the results.”
