TWO brothers from Hook have enjoyed what has been an extremely successful 2016 Quad Bike season.
Jamie and Axel Bone, aged 17 and 14 respectively, have both had years to remember as they travel up and down the country competing in championships.
Jamie, who attends Alton College won the MCF British Quad Cross Country Championships Adult Clubman Category while his younger brother, Axel, won the same championship in the 250 Youth Class, winning six out of the eight rounds.
The Robert May’s student also won at one of the most prestigious meets of the year, the HydroGarden Weston Beach Race 2016, again winning the 250 class.
The two brothers who are “Hook born and bred”, also took two titles home at an eight-hour endurance festival during the summer.
With both riding since the age of eight, the Bone brothers are totally dedicated to their sport, travelling up and down the country all year round.
Their father, Andy, said: “It’s been a fantastic season for both the boys, beyond our greatest expectations.
“Jamie and Axel have always been very good riders but to end the season with two British champions, I’ll take that.
“I’ve always tried to match their commitment by the endless hours in the workshop I’ve spent maintaining and repairing their bikes, to say nothing of the huge expense that it takes to keep the boys racing at this level.
“But at the end of the day it’s been worth the long hours and the high cost and I don’t regret any of it, I’m a very proud dad indeed.”
Jamie was also over the moon with his 2016 season. “I’ve been racing quads for as long as I can remember. I love the rush you get as the flag drops and you hit the throttle, the speed is exhilarating but sometimes scary.
“With college and trying to keep up with that along with the sometimes long journey to races can be tiring. Next year I’m hoping to go to university but still hope to race all I can.
“To win the championship twice in my first two years in the adult category has been amazing.”
While younger brother Axel is also looking forward to the future. “To win the Youth British Championship this year is really what I wanted to do as I came a close third last year.
“Winning the Weston Beach race this year in front of thousands of people was the best thing ever and I will never forget it.
“Next year I am moving up to the adult category so I will be riding a more powerful bike, which will take some time to get used to but I will try my best.”
