A popular bar and nightspot in Farnham has been lauded for sticking it to spikers in a town centre first.

Women who visit Borelli’s Wine Bar on weekend evenings will be offered one of four “anti-spike” stickers to cover the top of their glass.

The venue is understood to be the first in Farnham to “proactively protect local and visiting ladies” by offering the stickers, which are vegan, waterproof and made from recycled materials.

More importantly, the brightly coloured and easily identifiable stickers can prevent a spiking incident which is now recognised as a serious crime.

“Drinks being spiked is a growing problem in many towns across the UK,” said Borelli’s owner, David Quick.

“It’s not a worrying problem in Farnham presently but Surrey Police are advising venues to be extra aware on busy nights at weekends.

“These stickers are an offer to customers to show our awareness in dealing with any spiking issues, while also further promoting a safe drinking environment.”

He added: “The brightly coloured stickers allow our customers to easily identify their drinks when ‘out with the girls’ enjoying a lively weekend out.”

Bosses have also put extra security in place at the weekend to allow for a more “fun, uplifting and memorable experience” at the nightspot of The Borough.
