Two local women met in the final of the prestigious World Wide Carpets Ladies Tournament and it was Farnham Golf Club's Karen McLeod who emerged triumphant after winning a very tight contest with Blackmoor oponent Jane Shergold.

The match-play final was held at Camberley Heath Golf Club last week and Shergold (hcp 10) and McLeod (13) produced golf of an extremely high standard, both playing under their handicap.

Shergold's scintillating front nine included two birdies and this took her to a three-hole lead at the turn.

On the back nine, McLeod, in turn, produced her best golf, shooting back-to-back birdies and levelling the match on the 16th.

She went ahead for the first time on the 17th and both ladies made par on the 18th, the Farnham player thus taking the match and title by one hole.

The match was refereed by the lady captain of Camberley Heath, Judith Wenger, and some 30 ladies followed the match.

A buffet was laid on afterwards for players and spectators, where the finalists and referee were presented with bouquets. The main presentation will take place at Farnham Golf Club's Christmas lunch.
