Having lost heavily to leaders Richmond the week before, Farnham bounced back with a display that had their chief coach purring with satisfaction.
But although they beat bottom side Warlingham by a clear 54 points, Norman Gray threw in some criticism as well.
"There should have been four or five more tries," he growled. "We played some classical rugby in the first 20 minutes, but tried to play festival stuff before half-time, playing silly passes when we needed to hold the ball. That cost us some points."
However, Farnham got back to basics in the second half with attacking rugby that the coach described as "tremendous." And the fact that Farnham won every scrum bar two brought forth another superlative – "phenomenal."
Farnham won the match in the first half when, despite opting to kick from the clubhouse end straight into the teeth of the gale, they carved out an 18-0 lead at the interval.
The home team played to their strengths: great driving by the forwards and a good delivery to the backs, with some excellent inter-play in between.
Gavin Baker, skipper Matt Payne and Richard Doran scored the tries that rewarded Farnham's forceful play. In the absence of Simon Lewis, they blooded another kicker and centre Doran did well to slot over a penalty against the wind.
With any 'flash' rugby thrown out of the window at half-time, Farnham knuckled down to making the most of the wind at their backs and pleased their supporters with six more tries and long spells of sustained pressure.
With second row Baker leading the pack by example, Warlingham were seldom able to break out, despite the efforts of their classy fly-half, and were restricted to a late consolation try.
Baker, Andy Mortimore, Brendan Conlon, Campbell Thompson, Doran and Payne scored for Farnham in this half, with Doran adding four conversions and a penalty.
Farnham, fourth in the table and chasing third place with four games remaining, travel to Old Reedonians this Saturday (ko 3 pm).
