Farnham station level crossing is expected to remain closed until Saturday (March 16) after a skip lorry crashed into the barriers.

The crash caused chaos on road and rail in the morning rush-hour last Thursday (March 7), with several trains cancelled and motorists forced to detour.

Train services quickly resumed. But the level crossing has remained closed to traffic as repairs are undertaken by Network Rail.

It is understood the repairs have been held up by delays obtaining a replacement level crossing boom.

A spokesperson for Surrey County Council said: “The works are being carried out under a road closure for essential and immediate repair to a barrier due to a lorry crashing into it.

“These works are expected to be completed by March 16.

“We do realise unplanned works of this nature can cause inconvenience and our team is liaising with Network Rail for updates on the progress as and when necessary.”
