TWO men from Farnham appeared at the Old Bailey on Monday to deny trying to kill their alleged victim with an axe.

David Ruffle, 21, and Benjamin Sims, 22, are accused of attacking Darren Steel, 25, with a hatchet.

Mr Steel needed 25 stitches for two large cuts to his head following an incident in Beldham Road, Wrecclesham, Farnham, on January 24 this year.

Ruffle, of St Georges Road, Farnham, and Sims, of Bardsley Road, Wrecclesham, spoke only to confirm their names and plead not guilty to a charge of attempted murder.

Sims, alone, further denied one charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Mr Steel, one of dangerous driving and one of driving whilst disqualified on January 4 this year.

Ruffle was given conditional bail while Sims was remanded in custody by Judge Brian Barker QC.

A trial date was fixed for October 6.

Both men are due to appear at the Old Bailey for a review of their case on July 25.
