Farnham continued their rehabilitation with a sixth successive league win on Tuesday, putting them up to midway in the league table.

Town, unrecognisable from the hesitant outfit who gathered a pitiful two points from 10 matches either side of Christmas, dispatched Cobham with two first-half goals.

Cobham were on a high after holding leaders Wallingford to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, but their slack defending was ruthlessly punished by Farnham who are now snapping up their chances.

A familar set-piece routine gave them the lead after 15 minutes. Matt Edwards took a quick free-kick on the left and Cobham, caught cold, failed to pick up Vince Decicco coming round the back of the defence, and the Town skipper powered his header past a helpless Adam Watts in the visitors' goal.

Farnham's new self-belief was evident as Nigel Moore tried a spectacular volley that brought a fine save from Watts.

But it was a dreadful mistake by Watts that presented Farnham with the second goal.

His attempted clearance went straight to Alan Morgan who, from 25 yards, coolly rolled the ball into the net.

Just before half-time, Watts partly redeemed himself with a reflex save to keep out Morgan's close-range shot, following some great work by Paul Brooks on the right.

The second half was not for the faint-hearted – a real battle of attrition as Cobham tried everything to get back into the match.

It was a gritty midfield tussle, with plenty of verbal and precious little goalmouth action.

Scott Hooper, Paul Hatton and Edwards emerged with great honour. The combative Edwards was a key figure for Town and an aggrieved one by the end of the night, having, more than once, been kicked several feet into the air.

Decicco, Gareth Slessor and the talkative Jason Blake are looking a formidable trio at the back. Farnham have conceded just one goal in six matches.
