Farnham remains in the grip of an affordable housing crisis with warnings made ahead of an AGM in 2024 remaining just as relevant today.
That’s the belief of a key residents group ahead of their latest annual meeting in a year which has seen work start on one of the biggest housing developments in Farnham’s recent history.
Next Thursday evening (June 19) is a big one for the North West Farnham Residents Association as the group will hold their Annual General Meeting.
The NWFRA remains very active with subjects ranging from the Cala Homes Coxbridge development, Old Park Lane planning appeal, School Streets and speeding on Crondall Lane all piquing the interest of members.
But a familiar theme will be covered at tonight’s meeting, as the lack of affordable housing for young people in Farnham and the south east will also be touched upon, mirroring the group’s warning before the 2024 AGM.
“In 2025 the demographic crisis is growing,” said a spokesperson for the group ahead of tonight’s gathering.
“We are not replacing ourselves because young people cannot afford to buy or rent a home, let alone start a family. If this continues who will be your future teachers, nurses, soldiers, carers, police and refuse collectors?
“We are reaping the whirlwind of flawed housing policy of the 80s when council houses were sold but not replaced.
“Meanwhile landowners, property developers, and house builders are making obscene profits along with their camp follower estate agents.
“Our young people are paying the price for our failures, not us. How convenient, shameful, and irresponsible – we need to talk about it.”
Town councillors Graham White and David Beaman will be on hand to answer questions and update residents with the meeting starting at 8pm in St Francis Church Hall, Three Stiles Road.
