Encouraged by their recent good form, Farnham Swimming Club re-entered the National Speedo League as a guest team in the second-round gala at Guildford.
They got off to a flying start with wins in the first two events.
Hanna Gardner showed her all-round strength with a fine performance in the ladies' open individual medley. David Palmer was equally dominant in the men's open individual medley and was rewarded with a new club record.
Liz Riley continued her success in the backstroke, winning the 15 years event.
Howard Birtwell showed gritty determination in winning the boys' 10/11yrs butterfly, while Paul Roberts, also in fine form, dominated the 15yrs freestyle. Philip Elton missed out on first place, but gave another fine performance in the 10/11yrs freestyle, setting a new club record in the process.
In the relays, Farnham gave several fine team performances. The girls' 15yrs squad (Liz Riley, Hanna Gardner, Emily Brownlow and Jenny Birtwell) powered to wins in both freestyle and medley events.
Not to be outdone, the boys' 13yrs squad of Paul Roberts, Richard Smith, James Fox, David Smith and Joseph Wilson also won both their relays. The boys' 9/11yrs team (Daniel Lawrence, Thomas Kiddey, David Smith and Philip Elton) gave a splendid performance in the freestyle.
The ladies' open team – Sara Jarrett, Emily Brownlow, Claire Lee and Sian Wilson – took maximum points, as did the men's open freestyle squad, Trevor Fry, Phil Roberts, David Palmer, James Fox, Paul Roberts and Neil Metcalfe.
It was a highly competitive gala and points were hard earned.
Farnham showed their strength and improvement by winning seven out of 16 relays, gaining top-three places in 29 of 50 events, and setting 14 personal best times and two club records. As guest team, Farnham were narrowly beaten into second place by host club Guildford.
