FARNHAM has been named the second happiest place to live in Great Britain, according to Rightmove.

Rightmove surveyed residents across the country for its annual Happy at Home Index, asking them how happy they are where they live based on 12 happiness factors.

Factors ranged from how safe residents feel and how friendly the neighbours are, to how good the local services are and the quality of green spaces and cultural activities in the area.

More than 21,000 people across 219 areas in Great Britain took part in the Rightmove survey, with residents feeling happiest in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, Farnham, Monmouth in Wales, Christchurch in Dorset, and Leamington Spa in Warwickshire.

After the news was announced, Farnham Town Council took to Twitter and wrote: “Thrilled to see that Farnham is ranked the second-happiest place to live in Britain according to a recent survey by Rightmove and we couldn’t agree more!

“Proud to be Farnham!”

Mayor David Attfield was “delighted” to see Farnham second in the list and said: “Farnham has a great community supported by so many charitable organisations and volunteer groups.

“Our schools work together to give the best education for our young people and we all come together for local and nationally celebrated occasions – it was an honour to be part of the town’s centenary Remembrance service.

"As mayor, I am fortunate to personally meet many individuals bringing happiness to the people of Farnham through volunteering, music, art and day-to-day living."
