SOAPBOX sponsors Rookery Barns Ltd have unveiled their soapbox entry, The Rookery Rocket.

The team at locally-renowned Rookery Barns Ltd have been hard at work building a soapbox racer for this weekend’s soapbox derby, taking place in Castle Street, Farnham.

The chassis and bodywork, constructed from timber in the Rookery Barns Oakhanger workshop, has been turned into a mechanically-complete rolling cart with the help of Southern Trailers Ltd of Four Marks, which manufactured the axles and brakes, both essential features of a soapbox car.

Bill Rawles Motorsport also donated the wire wheels and steering box, both from a 1950s Austin Healey 3000.

Managing director Robin Welland-Jones said he was looking forward to piloting the cart down the 450-metre course.

The Farnham Soapbox Derby will take place this Sunday (August 18) in Castle Street, Farnham.

The event will begin at 10.30am, with 50 teams racing down Castle Street, all hoping to secure the fastest time.

The award ceremony will take place at 4pm.

The event is free, but organisers ask visitors place £3 in a bucket, to raise funds for The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
