Farnham's victory on their London League debut last week had been somewhat unconvincing.

However, they outclassed Warlingham in their second outing on Saturday.

On a fine pitch, with a strong breeze blowing, Farnham produced some of the form that won them the Surrey first division last season.

Conditions underfoot proved perfect for Farnham's big, mobile runners up front and they took the game to the home side from the kick-off.

Within seven minutes, Farnham had crossed the Warlingham line, courtesy of Simon Lewis, after some strong driving from the forwards.

Just five minutes later, Farnham's expertly executed catch-and-drive move from a lineout resulted in a try being scored by Adam Christie.

The tempo was hot and, save for a few big clearance kicks, the game was being played in the Warlingham half.

Further tries came from Simon France and Ian Holwill as Farnham built a healthy lead at half-time.

And with the wind now behind them, the irrepressible Farnham forwards continued to punch holes in the home defence, the charge being led by Gavin Baker, Simon France, and Richard Turnbull.

After five minutes, the floodgates opened, and tries from Nigel Rooney, after a trademark dummy and kick-ahead, Holwill, Turnbull and Matt Oakley brought the score to 44-3. Only two tries were converted; one by Lewis and the final try by Ben Heath.

However, Farnham were guilty of taking their foot off the accelerator in the last 15 minutes and some poor kicking and poorer tackling let Warlingham in for two tries under the posts.

Nevertheless, this result will give Farnham confidence for the tough games that lie ahead. Over a dozen balls were taken against the head, and the lineout work was impressive.
