POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the A286 Henley Hill between Midhurst and Fernhurst.

Emergency services were called at around 12.50pm on Sunday, after a silver Mercedes was spotted by a member of the public down a steep embankment.

The driver, a 32-year-old man from London, was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s officer has been informed. The road was closed for around six hours for recovery work.

Sergeant Peter Verney from the Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit said: “We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the Mercedes driving along the A286 or in Midhurst town centre between 2am and 9am that Sunday morning.”
