A FATHER of three was found shot dead in Great Frensham Pond car park on Saturday afternoon.
The man (56) came from Camberley and police say there were no suspicious circumstances.
Ken Bowman, who was parked in the car park with his wife, facing the pond said he heard a loud bang and assumed it was a starter gun, signalling the start of a boat race.
"There was this sudden bang but because a lot of races are held on the lake I didn't really think anything of it and didn't pay any attention. We were expecting the boats to come past and were surprised when they didn't."
Mr Bowman thought he heard a second bang and shortly afterwards he noticed a couple of men in their 20s running across the car park behind him in the direction of the pavilion.
It was only as the couple drove out of the car park that they saw two ambulances and a body covered with sheets.
Mrs Bowman added: "There were blankets covering part of a white car next to the body and you could see a lot of blood. He had obviously been parked in a car in the row just behind us on the far right. There weren't many people around, apart from the two boys we saw running earlier, who were standing near the ambulance and body."
The area is a popular beauty spot and attracts large numbers of dog walkers but it was unusually quiet for a Saturday afternoon, said Mr Bowman.
Ambulances crews called to the scene were informed that two people required treatment for shock but they were not taken to hospital.
