A MAN charged with murdering his six-year-old son at Farncombe last week was found dead in his cell at Lewes prison on Tuesday. Jethro Field was found murdered in the upstairs bedroom of his home at George Road, Farncombe, on Wednesday last week after a phone call to police from his father, 52-year-old teaching assistant Dafydd Field. Mr Field handed himself in to Tywyn Police Station in Wales two hours later. A post mortem at the Royal Surrey County Hospital revealed that Jethro had died from head injuries, caused by a brick, and a knife incision to the throat. He had also sustained stab injuries to the chest. Dafydd Field was charged with the murder and remanded in custody. His death, believed to be self-inflicted and from electrocution, is currently subject to a separate investigation by HM Prisons Service and Sussex Police. Mr Field and his wife, Stevie, had been living apart for just under a week but had an amicable agreement whereby they both looked after Jethro. In a statement, Stevie Field thanked friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, the police and the entire community for their compassion and support. "We will forever miss Jethro. He was such a special boy and no words can express how sad we feel. We will all miss his happiness, inquisitiveness, sense of humour, strength and love," she said.
