CHILDREN from St Matthew’s Primary School in Blackmoor have put on a special banquet for service veterans.
Last Tuesday’s celebration marked Remembrance Day and honoured former headteacher Tom Adlam. Deputy head Catherine Lee said it was “a fantastic day” for year five and year six children and their visitors.
“We had six guests from the local community who are veterans,” she added.
“We were also really honoured to have Clive Adlam and Hazel Adlam as our guests. They are the son and granddaughter of Tom Adlam who was a previous head of St Matthew’s and he also won the Victoria Cross during the First World War and served in the Second World War.”
Year 5 and year 6 pupils decorated the hall and went on to cook and serve the food.
“The children also made some speeches between each course and had the opportunity to talk to our guests and hear their stories,” she added. “The children gained so much with the experience and will hopefully be talking about it for some time to come.”
