TILFORD residents have taken "desperate measures" and performed a temporary DIY fix, rather than wait weeks for their phone lines to be restored following storm damage earlier this month.

Six households in the Reeds Road now have their phones working again thanks to collective action to rewire their connections.

The lines went down when the top of a tree fell and partially dislodged a telegraph pole on January 5.

The problem was reported, but according to residents, Openreach, who maintain the network on behalf of service providers, responded by sending an engineer five days later who said he could not fix outdoor faults.
