THE row over who is responsible for the upkeep of vandalised fencing at Petersfield Football Club continued last week. The club rents its Love Lane ground from Petersfield Town Council and under the contract is required to keep the fence which surrounds it in good condition. But officials at the club claim vandalism has been getting worse and that they lack the resources necessary to keep on mending fence panels and removing graffiti. A letter from club secretary Mark Nicoll said: "Naturally we are extremely disappointed with the outcome of the grounds committee's deliberations on this matter. "Having given a full reply, both verbally and in writing, to the council's concerns over the fence, we are particularly disappointed that there has been no response to any of the points we raised. "We recognise that under the lease we are responsible for the upkeep of the fence and will arrange for repairs to be made as instructed. "However, as has been pointed out many times, virtually all the damage to the fence is caused through vandalism, most of which is to the fence adjacent to the skate park. "Clearly this is not a coincidence. As the skatepark was installed by yourselves, before we carry out these repairs could you please advise us what action the council intends taking to deal with this ongoing problem." Members said the club should call both the police and council officers at The Festival Hall when further acts of vandalism occurred.
