FUN and frolics galore are in store for Fernhurst's May Fair next Saturday, May 18.
Only the name has changed for the traditional village event which went under the name of Fernhurst Revels for many years.
One of the first dates in the village diary to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, the proceedings get under way at 1-15 pm with a regal procession led by the Godalming All-Stars brass band and headed by last year's May Queen and her colourful entourage.
Following are Mythagos folklore dancers, the local Silver Spurs line dancers and a long line of people in fancy dress, all with a golden jubilee theme.
Individuals, groups, prams and dogs are all expected to join in the fun which will be judged after the crowning of the May Queen.
Leaving from Nappers Wood play area at 1-15 pm, the procession will make its way into West Close and across Vann Road to the green outside the village shops, where this year's May Queen, Lucy Seery (12) will be crowned by her predecessor, Hannah Davis.
Taking part in the royal line-up will be garland bearers Laurene Willshire and Claire Howard, crown bearer Charlotte Fordham and the two heralds accompanied by Colin Porter are Aron Cobbald and Michelle Richardson.
The May Queen attendants are Laura Fordham, Chloe Clark, Chloe Cobbald and Jade Broadbent, with two pages Josh Allen and Douglas Pulman. The attendant to last year's May Queen is Jessica Kettle.
St George, alias Jack Bell will re-enact the slaying of the dragon, Alice Kettle, who, thanks to Fernhurst Cubs, will be carried off in traditional style by Tom Jamieson, James Spratley, Joseph Roke and Harry Lambert.
There will be maypole dancing by Fernhurst pupils, lots of stalls, plants, cakes, raffles and plenty of games to encourage maximum enjoyment as well as revellers digging deep into pockets for the worthy causes.
And in the evening a May Fair dance in Fernhurst Village Hall will give everyone the chance to let their hair down. Tickets (£7-50 including supper) are available from Julia Roxan on 01428 645726 or Maria Carney 01428 722458
