THERE were Christmas trees galore as St Peter’s Church in Wrecclesham hosted its popular Christmas tree festival, which according to organisers was a “great” weekend, with a steady stream of visitors on both days.

There was about 30 trees of all shapes and sizes, created by local groups, organisations and individuals, who really used their imagination and initiative to come up with unique and extraordinary ideas.

Among them were users of the Wrecclesham Community Centre and the Leverton Hall, which included Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows and Brownies, the Wrecclesham History Society, the Over 60s group, Farnham Dance, the Farnham and District Model Railway Society, SureStart and the Happy Nappies Parent and Toddler Group.

St Peter’s School in Wrecclesham and Weydon School in Farnham, also entered a tree into the mix, alongside number of church groups including the choir and flower arrangers.

Wrecclesham organisations included the Wrecclesham Tennis Club, Grace Church, Thorne Leggett and Silhouette, and a number of individuals also participated.

Church warden Christopher Ellis said: “All the trees were beautifully and imaginatively decorated to illustrate their various activities and visitors were invited to vote for their favourite.

“The winner was Farnham Dance (ballet and tap for children and young adults) who hung their tree with decorated ballet shoes.

“The newly re-ordered church formed a lovely background for all the illuminated trees and the festival finished with ‘Carols by Tree-light’’ with the church lit only by the lights from the trees, a beautiful and moving end to the weekend.”
