SOUTH West Trains and Network Rail have issued a reminder to passengers to check before travelling over the Christmas and New Year period.

While the vast majority of the South West Trains network will remain open throughout Christmas, there will be some amendments to the usual weekday services as a result of railway improvement works, as well as special timetables in operation between Christmas Eve and Monday, January 4.

On Christmas Eve, many services from noon onward will run with additional carriages to help those travelling back from work or to see family and friends. A revised service will then run from 7pm with all services finished by 11pm. Any passengers travelling on Christmas Eve are strongly advised to complete their journey before 7pm.

There will be no train services on Christmas Day or Boxing Day and a revised timetable will then remain in place until January 4.
