THE Woodlarks Centre celebrated its 70th anniversary by hosting a fete at Gostrey Meadow.

Vice Lord Lieutenant Bill Biddell opened last Saturday’s fete and rotarian John Lewis was tasked with announcing the programme despite the rain showers.

Blues Cafe, the Rock Choir, Full Circle Vocal Choir, Elvis (Dale Fontaine), Farnham Bell Ringers and Farnham Taiko Club kept visitors entertained, while more than £5,170 was raised and will be put towards a new wheelchair accessible bus.

The dog show, officiated by Barbara Harris, was won by Ray Joll and Dunstan, and, over in the main tent, a model railway was set up by Farnham and District Model Railway Club.

Ben Madombwe, fundraising manager, and Alexine Crawford, whose parents Colonel and Mrs Strover were the founders of The Woodlarks Centre, put together a history tent which gave a snapshot of the centre’s 70 years.

With the help of volunteers, most of the residents went along and were said to have “very much enjoyed their time there”.

The centre’s residents, staff and trustees have extended their appreciation to all the volunteers and helpers on the day.
